I hadn't ridden since about May, so you can imagine how excited I was going into last weekend's round 2 of the C.A.M.S championship at Ruapuna. For maximum track time I took both the 125 and the little battler 50 to stack up 2 qualifying and 6 races for the day. My body ached like an old man after that. Time to hit the mountains and regain some of the fitness I lost with a broken collarbone.
Chris Wallinger and I lined up at the back of the 'moderns' grid so we could have a few battles. It took me a few laps to get my head back into it but we had a couple of fun scraps into the hair pin playing chicken. The 50 went bloody well considering I had the wrong gearing and no fairing. Not even half way down the straight I was tapped out in 6th, loosing at least a few seconds just there. I was pretty happy with a best time of 2.01.599, knowing there was so much still in it. I piled into the corners with the 150s and passed a few around the outside. Honestly I probably had more fun ringing the neck off the 50 than I did the 125. There's something about being the underdog that's so amusing.
